Kalahandi District
Kalahandi, placed at the south-western part of Orissa, covers an area of 7920 sq km. the region is divided into plain and hilly terrains. The population of the district is 1335494 as per census 2001 has a population density of 169 persons per sq km. Kalahandi possesses a total cultivable land of 3, 93, 550 hectares out of which 1, 83, 000 hectares of land is utilized for growing paddy. Three big industries contribute considerably to the economic wellbeing of the district. Kalahandi pulls huge number of global tourists through some distint places like Amathaguda, Asurgarh, Ampani, Belkhandi, gudahandi and Mohangiri.

Bhawanipatna: 418 km from Bhubaneswar is the capital of Kalahandi gistrict. It is famous for Goddess Minaskhi and lord Bhawanishankar temples.

Karlapat: 32 kms from Bhabanipatna. The tourists can see the wild animals in the dense forest. The image of Goddess Kanduala attracts the pilgrims.

Khariar: It is famous for the Dhadhibamana temple.

Ampani: 77 kms from Bhabanipatna is Ampani. It is popular for the wild atmosphere, picturesque Ampani hills and a frolicking valley called "Haladigundi". Behera Reservoir is 5 km from Ampani. The whole area abounds in spotted deer, Sambar and Black Panthers.Lanjigarh: Lanjigarh is is 64 K.Ms from Bhawanipatna. The 428 Feet high summit of the Niamgiri hills is situated. The village has some fortifications with a large moat around. It contains the temples of Gopinath and Deity "Dokari".

Phurlijharan: 15 Kilometres from Bhawanipatna, Phurlijharan is a perennial water fall about 30 Ft in height with forest surrounding.
Rabandarh: 12.8 K.Ms from Bhawanipatna is named after a small water fall inside a mountain gorge. The panorama around provides some delightful contrasts of scenery, in mountains and over looking dales, in bore rocks and thick forests. The stream which creates the fall almost dries up during the hot season.
